Qurbani, the Arabic word for sacrifice, is the ritual of killing an animal to honour God. Qurbani is commonly performed during the Eid al-Adha festival, which marks the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage. Qurbani, while not required for everyone Muslims is highly advised. Qur’an says that Qurbani should be observed in the period of Eid al-Adha as well as Hajj festival.

Qurbani is traditionally performed using goats, sheep and cows. Qurbani can only be performed by the Muslim who is healthy in body and mind, and who kills the animal in a humane fashion. The carcass of the sacrificed animal is then distributed to those who need it.
